Villa Romana da Abicada

Villa Romana da Abicada
Villa Romana da Abicada (12 km outside of Lagos) – in 1940, a Portuguese archaeologist found the remains of a Roman villa (estimated to have been built during the first century BC), near a road that links Portimão to Faro (next to the Ria de Alvor).
Located not far from the Alvor River – the site raises speculation that it was used for both fishing and agricultural activities at the time. Extensive mosaics were found within these grounds, encouraging further archeological work in that area.
