Roman Ruins of Milreu

Roman Ruins of Milreu (Rua de Faro, Estoi) – located just 10 kn north of Faro, the remains of a Roman villa at Milreu, dating from the 1st or 2nd century, was remodeled in the 4th century and occupied until the 6th or 7th century. It has been declared a National Monument by the Portuguese government. It is still possible to see the structures of a large-scale manor house, built in the 1st century and remodeled in the 2nd and 4th centuries, the agricultural installations, a bath-house and a temple. One of the most noticeable parts of this site are the fish mosaics, located at what used to be the villa’s bathing chambers.
