Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (Rua das Janelas Verdes, Lisbon) – housed in a former palace of the Count of Alvor, this museum has collections of paintings, sculptures, textiles, furniture, drawings and other decorative art from the Middle Ages until the 19th century. It is said to be a good place to learn Portuguese history during the height of it colony-building era in the 15th & 16th centuries.

Admission: Adult (€5), Seniors (€2.50), children (under 15) and students (15-18 years) that are accompanied by an adult – free. Free admission for all on Sundays & holidays (until 2 pm). Hours: open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Closed on Mondays & holidays. Open on Tuesdays from 2 pm to 5:30. See museum’s website for more details: www.museudearteantiga.pt
